Poor Performance of the internet providers in Kolkata

Internet users are growing in slow but steady rate. The internet population crossed 30 million landmark in the year 2007. The data revealed in april 2007. The growth is almost 28% from the year 2007 april. But the internet penetration is still at its infancy level. The figure spells just 9% at this stage. The broadband service is still poor. Mazor ones like BSNL, SYFI are doing a good job. But their performance is not out of the question.

The service providers are not at the international level so far as the satisfaction level is concerned. And specially for the BSNL people (the grass level workers) are eager to take bribe every time they engage to provide the connection. And the fact is that, some big private operators are launching their broadband service with minimal amount. The BSNL will be on some big competition. They are not professional at all.

Quite true. Lack of professionalism is whats bugging BSNL internet service. One of my friends in park circus areas has reported that her net connection stays stable for about only 60 hours per month! and this one is a 24 connection. When she tries to connect the BSNL officials they pass the buck to some other department and that department again passed it back to BSNL! This cat and mousegame has been going on for the past 1 year and there is no alternative in sight as there are no other reliable provider in that area. If this is happening in a metro like kolkata, you can imagine what will be state of affairs in smaller cities and towns!
