Today is 'Vijaya Dashami'. 'Durga Puja' is ending today.
This the festival of the demolition of all evil forces or energies by the good force or energies, which is symbolically showed as Devi Durga ('shaktirupini') is killing the Mahishasura (evil force).
It is considered that in ancient time Devi Durga was worshipped in the spring time. 'Vagaban Rama' worshipped her in autumn for the first time and killed Asura(demon) king 'Ravana' on 'Vijaya Dashami' with the blessings of 'Devi Durga'. That is why 'Durga Puja' in autumn also called 'Akal Bodhon'.
It is astonishing to find that in ancient India women are considered as the source of all power and energies and a man (Mahishasura) was killed by a woman because she is more powerful.
Today we greet everyone with saying 'Shubho Vijaya'(shubho=wishing good, vijaya=victory) and sweets. We touch our elders feet and they give us blessings.
So 'Shubho Vijaya' to all. |
